Marie Louise with Toys #1 @ Richard Ansett 1998
A major influence and personal obsession, the paintings by Otto Dix of his daughter; ‘Nelly mit Spielzeug’ and ‘Nelly mit Blumen’ displayed in London in 1992 inspired Ansett to re-create the two paintings as tribute. It took 6 years but in 1998 he came across a little girl sitting alone on the steps outside a pizza restaurant who immediately resonated with the essence of the original works.
The girl called Marie Louise had serious medical issues from birth and due to treatment for a brain tumor had been in and out of hospitals her entire life. Due to some of the aggressive treatment, this was the first time she had been able to grow her hair.
