James, Personality Disorder, River House Secure Psychiatric Ward, Bethlem Royal Hospital © Richard Ansett 2016

James is serving a life sentence. In 2000, he was doing time for armed robbery in prison when he launched an unprovoked attack on a fellow inmate with a weapon made from a toothbrush and a razor blade. His personality disorder affects the way he feels about relationships. There is a history of neglect and abuse in his early life – one of the worst that his doctor had ever seen.
